If You Asked Me - PART 5

IF YOU ASKED ME HOW long I had been preparing to face Sister Victoria to tell her I wanted me and her to be more than friends I would say the entire time right from the day I took her to church. Actually, I started to entertain the thought in my mind right from the moment she dragged me into her apartment and the VIP treatment she gave me then. I could see that she too liked me as equally as I did to her but getting to tell her from my own mouth as was required of us brother by the Message of the hour was proving a challenge to me like watching an avocado ripen. Fortunately for her every time I texted her asking to come see her she gladly accepted my visit without dilly dallying. “ Gary, you are one of my best friends so you are free whenever you find time to come by” she said. It was evident she enjoyed my company a lot as much I enjoyed hers. I was now dreaming if we leaved in close proximity like the same neighborhood, estate or even the same plot. But that would be the worst di

If You Asked Me - PART 4

IF YOU ASKED ME HOW long we had been friends I would not answer that, not because I want to be rude to you but because you asked a hard question. How long can friendship from childhood be supposing you were the one asked. It was such a long time since childhood and a lot had changed in both us. I was now speaking base and I had beards whereas her she had grown into a beautiful woman. She was shorter and lighter skinned than I was. She wasn't chubby at all yet she wasn't skinny in any way that I couldn't stop staring at her. "Why do you look at me like that?" she asked me when she got tired catching me staring at her. "Ha ha ha I am just amazed at how beautiful you have become since all those years" I answered chuckling a little. She almost spilled tea that she was pouring into a thermos from the sufuria. "Oh My God! Did you see that?" She asked me. "Off course I saw it!" I answered quickly. "Well that is because you mak

If You Asked Me - PART 3

IF YOU ASKED ME WHY I wanted to leave church a little bit early yet I had come in late I would just tell you it’s complicated because I wouldn’t want a series of questions on a “case that still under investigation”. Whatever way I wanted to do it was supposed to end up with me not being seen with her after church knowing it might end up in some WhatsApp chat somewhere and if things don’t work out as the chat would be claiming you know for sure it would just premium tears in the end. As much as Pastor used to be humorous in his sermons I was one of the few people that found a way to sleep through no matter what. Sleep always found a way to come through in the middle of the heated sermon. I even remember one time a note which I never saw who passed it to me read “PLEASE GO OUT”. I felt ashamed but it was genuine advice, I got up and walked out through the nearest door to the washrooms where I washed my face and looked at myself in the mirror. But sleep is just a stubborn spirit I w

If You Asked Me - PART 2

IF YOU ASKED ME WHY I woke up so early on a Sunday morning something that I rarely did except on rare occasions I would tell you it is because I was taking someone to church, and not just someone, but rather a sister. I always arrived late in church and deacons never hesitated to show me where I would sit. Most of the time, I always found the pastor already on the pulpit getting into the depth of his subject for that day. If I was lucky I would be early to even attend the worship service. Before sleeping I had said a short prayer and left my phone plugged to the charger on my wall socket. It must have been about 5:00am when I woke up. The light was on and my phone was charged to 65 %. If you could have seen the smile on my face you would smile too because I always carried an infectious smile with me. Sometimes it was a genuine one and other times it was cunning one. Sunday was a weird day because you could be back to the house early or late in the afternoon but cooking lunch w

If You Asked Me - PART 1

EPILOGUE: Brother Gary, a young man brought up in a believer’s family and baptized right after primary school is a hard-working devoted Christian full of dreams and a promising career in accountant. Like any other normal young man, he desires to have a good wife and start a family with her. All that seemed to have gotten a boost when he met with a childhood friend Sister Victoria. She appears to be the full complement of what he desires for a wife. But as much she is caring and understanding to him it’s not easy to open up to her, his heart desires. Will she be the asset he acquires or the liability he shuns.   PART 1 IF YOU ASKED ME WHY I came to Facebook constantly I would say to read jokes and memes to cool off my misery especially from my tiring work and bachelorhood. I hardly returned texts on messenger on time especially this people who used to text me hi. And if someone texted “God bless you” or “Gbu” for its short form, I would just reply Amen and th

Friendship

Image
It is something makes people from different walks of life do things together or even be in sync with each other. Some friendship gives birth to relationships that ends up in a marriage, some creates business ventures. However from a personal perspective you cant be in one if communication is not in sync in any way. Sometimes you just know if you are just a friend or a good friend depending on how fast you learn about what goes on with your friend. If your friend gets sick how first will you know it and from who? Life has taught me that if there is someone who can make or destroy you then its your friend no matter how you view it. When police are looking for you its one of your friend who will sell you out just like when you need financial help, business partner, life companion or advisor you will check out from your friends. In the recent past I have had to cut any communication links with people I thought were best friends because it was getting toxic day by day and I could not put

IS IT REAL? Bartholomew turned lazily in his bed despite it being already morning. He had snoozed his phone a couple of times but today he wondered why he couldn’t remember doing it. He was an early riser and no extra minute would he spend in his bed after a half past six in the morning. He spent the next thirty minutes to prepare himself for work at exactly seven o’clock. He turned to the face the opposite side of the bed and for once he thought he saw something strange. Someone was sleeping on his bed too and it was a lady and not a man! Jesus of Nazareth! Not only was this strange but rather in a place he was unfamiliar with. It looked like a hotel of an expensive hotel somewhere he could not tell. This place looked elegant and expensive like places he often saw in movies that he loved to watch. He wanted to wake up and look out of the window. He wanted to wake up the lady who was sleeping by his side in this big bed. He wanted to ask her a number of questions like who she w

DO SOMETHING Eliezer looked like he had been slimming unfavorably and was weak. You would be forgiven to think he needs to walk around with stones in his pockets to give him the stability just in case a whirlwind came about unannounced. Even before Bartholomew could speak to him and probably get to ask him a few questions he knew all was not well with his old-time friend. The gentleman was supposed to have settled back in his house from the small compulsory holiday he and his wife Happiness had been given after the small drama in their house. “Brother, you were to have been back full of energy like two weeks ago and not like this?” he started trying to be as compassionate as he could but deep down his heart he knew he was not compassionate enough for someone like him. Eliezer was the person who insulted him in the face and came back to make things right when he needed help from him. Although he had gotten over the fact that this same guy had married a lady he thought he would m

KEEPING DISTANCE Bartholomew was not someone who could withstand a lot pressure regardless of where he was or whom he was with. How it amazed him how he had managed to succumb to the pressure from Anastacia to go help her look for a house. He had feared to be thrown into unplanned spending at a time of the month when things were pretty much tight financially. However, to much of his amazement she financed the whole operation which sort of softened his heart to cooperate. The afternoon efforts were much fruitful since they did not only find a house that she fell in love with but they got to move her belongings from her aunt’s place to the house. It a spacious bedsitter on the second floor of an apartment overlooking the city below. She didn’t have much belongings apart from three heavy suitcases and her handbag that never left her right hand. They went to one supermarket where she bought an executive mattress, a few utensils, cutlery, a plastic chair, table, gas cooker and heade

ABOUT THE VISITOR The church service was finally ending and church members were living the church hall via the various doors to the hall. The song leader was still singing “Till we meet at Jesus’ feet” and the musician were doing their very best with the instruments. Bartholomew was still but undecided on what to do next. He was torn between scampering from the church compound to avoid whatever compliments awaited him outside. He knew the sort of comments that awaited him the moment he walked out whether alone or with Anastacia. Most of them would be congratulatory ones for taking a long-awaited step or maybe questions of when he was going to have his engagement announced. "The pastor would like to see you with visitor", someone tapped him on his shoulder gently. It was Deacon Musa. He nodded in agreement. "I believe she is the one next to you" Deacon Musa added before disappearing to the door on the left of the pulpit that lead to the pastor's office.
